Portraits
I started out by taking a picture of my cat stretching in the window and wanted to really draw attention to him so I figured a black and white photo would be the best way to edit it. However, I didn't love the fact that it turned out to be like a silhouette because he's an all black cat. So I wanted to see what would happen if I switched subjects and did a black and white photo of my dog Freyja in front of a different window. This still ended with my subject being too dark compared to the light outside so I tried bringing her into the sunroom so that I could get more light in front of her too. This worked but I still found the background to be too distracting. The issue that I had was that I was working with an animal so by this point she was bored and wanted to do something else so I let her. I switched subjects and brought my other dog into the sunroom to see if I could get a couple good pictures of her. I messed around with editing these, using tools like heal, clone, and crop in order to get the background to be less distracing. I didn't want to fully make the picture black and white because the last ones didn't turn out as well as i'd hoped so instead I tried sponging the saturation out of the background on the last photo which helped to achieve the goal of making the background less distracting. It really brought attention to my subject and made for a better photo. This photo turned out to be my favorite of the few.
